Alternative Addicts is a self-help addiction recovery program that does not require the addict to enter into rehab. The myths that addiction is an incurable and progressive disease, and that addicts are powerless over it, are debunked by this alternative addiction treatment. Alternative Addicts take back their strength by relying on self -empowering tools to conquer addiction. The very notion that addicts are powerless in itself disempowers anyone who subscribes to this myth. The strength to conquer addiction resides in each and every human being, and twelve step based programs rob the addict of this strength. Addiction is defined as any repetitive act, thought process, or emotion that causes harm to oneself or others. Total abstinence is therefore not a prerequisite to overcome addiction, although it is recommended as a final goal. Moderation can be used as a tool to cope with addiction, until ultimately the addiction is overcome.
